SOUTH CAROLINA YOUNG FILMMAKERS STORY CONFERENCE – NOV. 8 IN CHARLESTON – Part of AfroSouth Film Festival
S.C. YOUNG FILMMAKERS is a filmmaking competition open to high school and middle school students across the state, from the South Carolina Film Commission and Trident Technical College.
The program will hold a YOUNG FILMMAKERS STORY CONFERENCE on Friday, Nov. 8, from 10a-11:30a at the American Theater in Charleston, part of the AfroSouth Film Festival.
Student attendees will meet professional filmmakers and have the opportunity to pitch them their YOUNG FILMMAKERS PROJECT short film ideas (or other stories they’re working on).

DEADLINE FOR THIS YEAR’S YOUNG FILMMAKERS PROJECT IS FEB. 10, 2025. To participate, students must create a short film (two minutes max) telling a cinematic story in any genre, following all rules and this year’s Creative Challenge — use a flashlight as a prop.
Entries will be scored by a panel of independent judges, with Top Ten scorers screening at a special program and awards ceremony. First Prize receives $750, Second Prize $500, and Third Prize $250.

As part of its training and professional development efforts, the South Carolina Film Commission presents a series of production seminars and other training programs each year. All programs are provided to South Carolina residents at no charge and on a regular basis by action of the S.C. Motion Picture Incentive Act, passed by the state legislature in 2004.
