S.C. Young Filmmakers Screening – July 13
July 13 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
After a record number of entries, the Finalists in the South Carolina Film Commission’s 2024 YOUNG FILMMAKERS PROJECT will screen at a special event on Saturday, July 13 at 2:30pm at Spotlight Cinemas Capital 8 in Columbia, SC.
The program is FREE and open to the public. It will include Q&A with the filmmakers, announcement of winners, and a brief reception. (Register for the event here if you’d like to receive reminders and more info.)
YOUNG FILMMAKERS is an annual filmmaking competition for South Carolina students in grades six to twelve. Entrants submit two-minute short films and are required to incorporate a specific prop into their two-minute short films. This year that prop was a guitar pick.
“The contest has proven to be a great thing for young South Carolina filmmakers,” said Matt Storm, Director of the South Carolina Film Commission. “It’s an opportunity to practice the craft of video storytelling, which is a major driver for all industries at this point with real career opportunities.”
“The future is bright for video storytelling in the state,” said Glenn Seale, Dean of Film, Media and Visual Arts at Trident Technical College in North Charleston, one of the contest’s main partners. “We encourage everyone to come and see what these filmmakers have cooked up.”
